  • Knife

I've never owned a great knife.  One of the knives I'd had around for while is one my high school youth minister gave me before he left.  I've misplaced it several times over the last few year.  It was/is a great knife, but it's pretty useless when I don't know where it is.  I've had tons of time on my hands, and some how or another, I got fixated on knives.  Over the past few years when I've been camping, one thing that I haven't had (consistently) is a good knife.  It seems like every time I would get to the point where I needed a knife, I just thought "Oh well," and moved on.  Well, the cooler weather and terrain here make me want to go camping, and I've already been once with the second planned trip getting rained out.  The nearest state park is 30 short minutes up the road, and it is so pretty.

Bottom line: I bought a knife today.

I did tons of research on folding knives in general, and I'm cautiously excited about my purchase.  I'll detail it a little more a bit later.  I've got to pick up the kids in just a few minutes, and I'm still riding that...feeling...of a recent purchase.

Grain of salt: I bought a ($150) pocket knife today.

I told Kaylin about it.  She was...disgusted.  She said it was like buying a $400 purse.  My first thought was to argue, but ultimately, she's right.  Shopping is a hobby.  Camping and the like...is a hobby.  Now, I could argue the redeeming value of each, but that's unnecessary at the moment.  I could have spent half what I did on a similar knife, but while I don't spend money alot, I do like to get quality when I do.  The main price points are the brand, the steel, and the domestic production.

    ...

I'm already looking at weather for next weekend.  I just needed to get that out

Realistically, it should be here by Wednesday at the latest!
